Rumored Celebrates Five Year Anniversary With Jewelry Launch
When Dacey Trotta first launched her fashion brand Rumored back in 2018, she had no idea her brand would be worn by Taylor Swift, Elsa Hosk and Britney Spears.
It all started in her parents’ basement in Wayne, NJ, but has grown to become a celebrity favorite.
Rumored specializes in vintage inspired clothing with a modern edge. Browse their website to see how they’ve become experts at nailing a cool girl aesthetic with their dresses, cute sweaters and coats that. The brand creates a mix of wardrobe staples with chic items to glam up your everyday outfits.
It started out as a side project. “It was scrappy, it was DIY, and it was fun,” said Rumored’s founder and CEO Dacey Trotta.
“We started out stacking packaged clothes in recycled boxes and my friends pitched in to help–whether it was modeling looks for product photos or writing customer service emails. We now have a warehouse, but those basement days will always be where it all began.”
Rumored is run by an all-woman team and has small production runs. “We acknowledge that fashion is a key contributor to climate change, and we are committed to finding ways to reduce our footprint as a brand,” she said.
When Rumored first began in 2018, they started out as a multi-brand retailer called Rumors (inspired by the namesake Fleetwood Mac album), selling items from Los Angeles and Australia. In 2021, they launched their first in-house collection, so they renamed it Rumored in 2022, as they started making and selling their own designs.
“‘Rumored’ feels like something exciting and exclusive—something waiting to be discovered, just for you,” she said. “We want everyone to find pieces that resonate with them personally.”
For their five year anniversary, Rumored has a sitewide sale of 20 percent off all items. “It’s our way to express our gratitude to our incredible customers who’ve supported us along the way,” said Trotta.
Some of their bestselling items include their Yellowstone Jacket, their Weekender Quarter Zip sweater, and their Winona Maxi Dress.
Every design is produced in small batches in their own factories, so Trotta and her team can trace the origins of their materials and its ethical production. New products are added to their website weekly, and their design evolves based on client feedback.
Alongside their sale, Rumored recently launched their first jewelry collection on October 21, and opens what Trotta calls “a new chapter” for the brand. “To me, jewelry is more than just an accessory—it’s a form of storytelling and a reflection of personal style,” she said.
It’s also a way to polish off a look from Rumored, be it pairing up one of their silky dresses with stylish earrings. “Our jewelry is designed to evoke the same sense of nostalgia that defines our clothing collections,” said Trotta. “Our jewelry is designed to complement the outfits we offer.”
Their first jewelry collection features a collection of a dozen earring styles in gold and silver, from classic hoops to seashell-shaped pieces.
“Each piece is designed to evoke the magic of uncovering hidden treasures, whether it’s at a flea market or in your grandmother’s jewelry box,” she said. “Our jewelry design reflects the bold aesthetics of the 1980s and 1990s with oversized, antique-inspired elements.”
The earrings are hypoallergenic and are made from aluminum-free materials. “We’ve taken great care to ensure that our pieces are safe for sensitive skin,” she said, noting that each piece is crafted with a timeless quality. “Ultimately, we aim to create jewelry that feels truly special, offering thoughtful craftsmanship without sacrificing affordability,” she said. All jewelry items are under $100.
Their jewelry line is a nod to the brand’s history. When the brand first founded in 2018 as Rumors, their logo featured a hand with rings holding a crescent moon. It symbolized their connection to jewelry, and paid homage to Trotta’s grandmother. “It reflects my vision for Rumored as a vintage-inspired brand,” she said.
“Many of the pieces draw inspiration from my grandmother Rose, whose collection of jewelry has always been a source of admiration for me. This is really for her.”
