Running teams take 46th Big Bay Relay in stride

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) – Saturday morning, 49 teams of runners donned their shoes for the 46th annual Big Bay Relay.

The journey took them from the Kaufman Sports Complex in Marquette all the way to Big Bay’s Draver Park.

Each team member runs a mile and then passes the baton for the next leg of the race while the rest of the team rides along in the designated race vehicle.

Marcia Gonstead, Big Bay Relay director, said the day included teams of seven kids as well.

“Everybody’s excited,” Gonstead said. “The great part is we have the honey bear here joining us today and we have seven junior teams running which is fantastic.”

Awards were given for best team in each division and a team spirit award.
