RUTLAND, Vt. (WCAX) – A downtown Rutland barbershop is celebrating its 90th year in business.

Tom Mazzariello Sr. opened the Star Barber Shop in 1934. The shop eventually moved a few buildings over on Merchants Row to its current location, where Tom’s grandson Bill and two other barbers cut hair six days a week.

Bill Mazzariello says he’s seen a number of changes to Rutland’s downtown over the years.

“I’ve been cutting hair for 32, right, so there’s a lot of generations that have been coming in over the years, and I’ve seen fathers, grandfathers. new babies, all that sort of thing. My dad and my mom really have been my inspiration for working hard and same with my brother and sister. I mean, that’s just what we do,” Mazzariello said.

He says their goal is to reach at least 100 years in business with the family name.
