Ryan Swanson Bound For PGA Professional Championship

Ryan Swanson

Ryan Swanson is scheduled for a road trip later this month.

The Panama resident and Pinehurst Golf Club co-owner and golf professional, will be playing in the PGA Professional Championship April 28-May 1 in Frisco, Texas.

Swanson, who is also the head coach of the St. Bonaventure University golf team, earned the berth late last year when he finished in a tie for second in a field of 50 golfers at the Western New York PGA Section Championship in Niagara Falls after carding a 70-74-144.

Swanson’s total tied him with Walker Singleton of Oak Hill Country Club, five shots behind winner Rob Krajewski of Glen Oak CG.

Practice rounds for the PPC event, which will feature a field of more than 300, are April 25-27. Swanson’s brother, Nolan, will be the caddie.

In his eighth season at the helm of the St. Bonaventure golf program, Swanson has re-energized Bonnies golf. He oversaw the recruitment and development of perhaps the best Bonnies golf graduating class in program history with the trio of Christian Chapman, Danny Gianniny and Jack Geise, who graduated in 2022 owning nearly every program record. Chapman finished his career with the Bonaventure career scoring record (73.08) while Gianniny stands second (74.16).

In 2022-23, a pair of Bonnies also made their mark in the program record books as Jack Angelucci set the school record for rounds of par or better in a season (13) and his 87 birdies tied for third in season history. Erik Stauderman also drained 82 birdies, fifth in school season history, while he and Angelucci each finished in the top-15 at the 2023 Atlantic 10 Championship. Bona’s academic success also continued as three players were selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team and nine were named to the A-10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
