Saints’ Kamara on winning team in Florida sport fishing competition

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WVUE) – The Saints’ Alvin Kamara teamed with fellow running back Raheem Mostert of the Miami Dolphins and others to win a made-for-television sport fishing tournament Saturday (April 20) off the south Florida coast.

The NFL stars teamed with professional angler Jaselyn Berthelot to place first in the Sport Fishing Championship’s “The Catch,” which featured seven teams in a catch-and-release billfish competition.

Kamara’s Rising Son’s/Team Verizon squad topped the leader board with 500 points after hauling aboard four sailfish, three tuna and one mahi-mahi. Three of the sailfish were caught simultaneously.

“Coaching Alvin and Raheem through a triple-sailfish hook-up and then landing it was amazing,” Berthelot said. “It’s the first time I’ve accomplished that. To me, that’s unheard of.”

The victory earned a $100,000 donation to the team’s charity of choice, the Coast Guard Foundation, courtesy of Harvey Gulf.

The foundation is the premier nonprofit organization that supports active U.S. Coast Guard members, veterans and their families through investments that impact families, boost unit morale and honor the Coast Guard’s national mission, according to tournament organizers.
