Samsung To Release Its Own Version Of AR Glasses In Q3 2025, Research Firm Suggests New Device Will Sport A Qualcomm SoC And Will Only Weigh 50 Grams

A Chinese research firm estimates that Samsung will introduce its first AR glasses in the third quarter of 2025, while also providing some specifications of the upcoming device. Apparently, it will be equipped with a Qualcomm chipset, and will sport a weight of just 50 grams. However, there are a multitude of questions that remain unanswered, but let us talk about the potential hardware arriving in the distant future.

Information from Wellsen XR Research was spotted by Jukanlosreve, who provided a brief summary of Samsung’s AR glasses’ internals. It is surprising to hear the Korean giant jump into a more advanced product class because we reported that shortly after the Apple Vision Pro announcement that happened at last year’s WWDC 2023 keynote, Samsung scrapped its mixed-reality headset prototype and started from scratch because it was unattractive compared to the $3,499 head-mounted wearable. Since then, we have not heard any follow-up from the company regarding a commercial launch, so the AR glasses are a surprise.

Regardless, these smart spectacles are said to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon AR1, along with a 155mAh battery, with the weight said to be 50 grams. Given that these AR glasses will be lightweight, it is possible that the device is not equipped with a whole lot of hardware, meaning that most of its computing could be happening when it is tethered to another device, like a smartphone. Apple was reported to be seriously considering a similar product where the smart glasses would be connected to an iPhone, and that is because the technology required to make a standalone pair of augmented reality spectacles is too elusive.

The camera featured in Samsung’s upcoming AR glasses is a Sony IMX681 12MP unit, with the initial production target set at 500,000 units, which is almost the same number as the Apple Vision Pro. The rumor does not mention a price tag, but Samsung could gain some traction if it prices this product competitively.
