Samsung’s New Patent Application Hints At Galaxy Ring 2’s Design With A Display, Featuring A Boxier Design

The Unpacked Event 2024 is only a few days away, and the rumor mill seems to be churning in full swing with speculations regarding the upcoming products that are to be unleashed by Samsung on the big day. The tech companies operate on agility, constantly upgrading and bringing new products to secure their positions firmly. The upcoming Galaxy Ring marks the tech giant’s revolutionary move as it is the company’s first smart ring. While we are still getting updates on the first model’s launch, the reports have pivoted in another direction, teasing the Galaxy Ring 2.

New Samsung patent potentially shows off Galaxy Ring 2 with a redesigned body and a display

With the Galaxy Unpacked 2024 set for July 10th in Paris, we are looking at the launch of Samsung’s first smart ring at the event that was initially given a glimpse at the Unpacked event in January and later showcased at the MWC. It grabbed the attention of not only tech enthusiasts but also Samsung users, especially those who are looking for compact health-tracking devices.

A recent report by 91mobiles highlighted that Samsung filed a patent application with the USPTO for a new smart ring that could hint at the possibility of a potential successor to the Galaxy Ring. The first model, displayed briefly at earlier events, supported a circular design with sensors in the inner layer. The Galaxy Ring 2 is said to have a different design and sport a squarish outlook, with the embedded sensor included in the inner side of the circular part.

The new smart ring’s elliptical or oval design deviates from the usual circular design and could be an attempt to improve fit and make the ring more ergonomic. The most interesting aspect of the Galaxy Ring 2 would be the inclusion of two displays: one for selecting icons and the other for displaying more detailed information.

The potential AMOLED display could help users interact with the device better by visually tracking progress and seeing notifications. As per the patent application, the Galaxy Ring 2 will include many health-centric upgraded features, including acceleration, fingerprint, and temperature sensors. It could also include expansive connectivity options.

We are given insights on the smart ring coming in a wide variety of sizes to cater to a vast number of users. The US is said to receive 65 different sizes, and the South Korean market may get the option of 27 sizes. Although several reports suggest added capabilities, such as the inclusion of electrocardiogram functionality in the successor, we cannot be certain until Samsung’s Galaxy Ring hits the market and any official confirmation is received. Till then, we have the company’s first smart ring to look forward to in a few days.
