San Antonio card store robbed of $15,000, community rallies to keep business afloat

SAN ANTONIO – One small San Antonio business is working trying to recover after being robbed early Saturday morning. TCG Exchange specializes in-game trading cards, now the owner is figuring out how to keep the business afloat.

“They came in here and just started taking stuff and right now we estimated close to like $15,000 worth of merchandise,” said Joe Adam, owner of TCG Exchange.

Adam said that early Saturday morning his security cameras detected movement. Adam immediately called the San Antonio Police Department, in the eight minutes it took officers to respond, the thieves took off with thousands of dollars’ worth of merchandise.

“I don’t like to show my emotions, but that’s actually what kept me going. It’s keeping me going. They’re being strong, and it’s a lot of time,” said Adam.

Managing his emotions, Adam said he can only thank his customers and the community for all the support he’s been receiving. According to Adam, from the security camera footage, it seemed like the thieves knew the value of what they were taking.

“It seemed like they knew what they were going for, in a way so most likely, they’ve done their homework. They’ve been here before, and I’m sure they they’re probably the ones that have done it with other stores as well,” said Adam.

In hopes of getting information that could lead to the arrest of the thieves, Adam shared the security video on social media. Adam said he couldn’t believe what happened next.

“I had people coming in, customers coming in, like, like, donating cards, donating product for us to resell, to kind of recoup, and I just been very grateful about that,” said Adam.

The trading card community and other trading card businesses have been reaching out to Adam to show support. Adam said he’s speechless because people have also been donating items to restock inventory and help keep the business afloat.

Moving forward, Adam said he hopes to see improved security measures in the area.

“Maybe more like streetlights and maybe some more police in the area to avoid stuff like this, like break-ins,” said Adam.
