Sarah Jessica Parker Defies Space, Time, and Season in This Chrome Gown
And just like that, Sarah Jessica Parker transported us to the future with her latest red-carpet look.
A New Yorker through and through, Parker—just like her Sex and the City character, Carrie Bradshaw—loves a Big Apple event, even if it’s just an excuse to get dressed up. And on Wednesday night, the actor certainly made a statement when she attended the New York City Ballet’s fall fashion gala, where she wore a shimmering floral dress from Oscar de la Renta.
The space age design featured a strapless, poncholike bodice up top, which looked like a piece of aluminum foil that had been cut and creased to create chrome flowers.
At the skirt, things got a little more ethereal, with layers of creamy white tulle giving the effect that Parker was being carried on a cloud. Across the skirt, the gossamer fabric was decorated with the same floral motif as the bodice, but these silver leaf petals looked more like swirling vortexes, adding a hypnotic effect to the overall ensemble.
SJP maintained the metallic color scheme with her accessories, which consisted of a bedazzled clutch, strappy sandal heels, a pendant necklace, climber earrings, and a set of diamond bangles. Even her eyeshadow came in a sparkly silver.
If you haven’t been following Parker’s style over the years, you’d still probably know that one of her most iconic looks is the tutu skirt she wears in the intro for Sex and the City. Over the years, the Emmy-nominated actor has incorporated tulle into her looks time and time again, perhaps as a wink to her character, or maybe just because she loves it. What better venue to wear the fabric than the ballet?
