Sarasota Babe Ruth 16u baseball team preparing for Babe Ruth World Series
SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – The Sarasota Babe Ruth 16u baseball squad will be in Missouri in a week from now.
This group of young men won their regional tournament, and went undefeated in both the state and regional rounds. The success doesn’t come as a surprise to the team’s head coach, Michael Marquez.
He knew it was possible for this team to do big things from day one. “Coming into this season, we got together as coaches in the league and picked this team,” Marquez said. “We all knew ahead of time that’s it’s a strong team and they have a chance. As long as they show up, play, and do their jobs it’s realistic and here we are.”
One of the star players, Luke Duffy, says that despite the great season on the field, the biggest area of improvement that this team has had since last year is building team comradery.
“This team melds together very well,” Duffy said. “There’s a lot of good guys from different schools. It’s very interesting to watch this kind of melting pot of teams into one big group. It’s incredible to watch, really.”
The Babe Ruth World Series begins on Thursday, August 8, in Branson, Mo. The team also has a GoFundMe page set up for anyone that would like to support them in any way.
