Satchmo’s bar in Bay View to close, with a new sports bar possibly taking its place
Bay View sports bar Satchmo’s is closing after just under a year in business, making way for a possible new sports bar in its space.
Satchmo’s General Manager Jason Walz confirmed that the bar at 182 E. Lincoln Ave. would be closing as soon as Dec. 7 after the Santa Rampage bike ride and pub crawl. The bar opened at the beginning of this year, on Jan. 13.
Walz said Satchmo’s owner, listed on food and liquor applications as Ting Burazin, had accepted an offer from someone who wanted take over the bar space.
“The new owners are well-versed in the industry, and I’m sure they’ll keep something good going there. We’re excited to see what comes of it,” Walz said in a text message.
Walz could not confirm the names of the new owners as the lease had not been finalized and signed yet. Walz also said Satchmo’s could stay open longer if there was a delay or issues with the new owners getting licenses or obtaining the lease.
Julio Maldanado and Andres Garcia, who own Revival at 814 S. Second St. in Walker’s Point, filed liquor license and food applications for the space.
The proposed name on the application is Brown & Gibbs Sports Bar and it plans to make 50% of its sales in alcohol, 40% in food and 10% in tobacco products.
It also applied for entertainment elements including a pool table, dart board, pinball machine and five amusement machines.
The application included a possible menu that has street tacos, burritos, loaded fries, wings, street corn, pizza and quesadillas.
Maldanado and Garcia did not respond to a request for comment.
Prior to Satchmo’s, the space was the longtime home to Baby Boomers bar and restaurant, which was known for its fish fry.
The closing of Satchmo’s is the second sports bar closing in Bay View in a short period of time, after Little Cancun Sports, 3040 S. Delaware Ave., closed Oct. 10.
