‘Save Century II’ founder, business leader advance in Sedgwick Co. Commission race

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – The race to replace a departing Sedgwick County commissioner includes a previous Wichita mayoral candidate who’s spearheaded an effort to save the city’s more-than-half-century-old live performing arts center and an active leader in the Wichita area’s business community.

Unofficial results from Tuesday’s primary election show Celeste Racette, founder of “Save Century II,” winning the Democratic nomination for the soon-to-be vacant commission seat in Sedgwick County’s third district handily over Alma Ann James. On Nov. 5, she’ll face Stephanie Wise, a business leader whose organizational involvement includes serving as the president of Women in Commercial Real Estate. Unofficial GOP primary results show Wise edging Greg Ferris.

The winner in November will replace David Dennis who decided not to seek a third term on the county commission. Dennis began serving on the commission in January 2017. Either Racette or Wise will take his seat in January.

Wise’s campaign is focused on fighting against government overreach, lowering taxes, property rights, and core functions like public safety and infrastructure. Racette, coming from a background in finance, is campaigning on a commitment to transparency and eliminating wasteful spending.
