Schoolcraft County business to assist in Hurricane Milton clean up

THOMPSON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLUC) – A Schoolcraft County business will be heading to Florida after Hurricane Milton passes.

Hurricane Milton made landfall in Florida as a Category 4 Wednesday, with winds up to 150 mph. This means companies across the country will be dispatched to help clean up the wreckage once it passes. S&D Tree Service, based in Thompson Township, will be leaving next week.

The owner, Samuel Warren, said for him, this job is personal.

“Every little bit helps and being a resident of Highlands County for 15 years, I don’t feel right not going to help my fellow friends, family and Floridians. I also have a sister in Highlands County that we’re currently checking on throughout the storm of Milton,” Warren said.

Warren said he and seven others will be driving there by next week. He said one main challenge of cleaning up after a hurricane is getting from one area to the other.

“The safety concern of being safe, knowing what we’re doing so nobody gets hurt, us or any other property damages occurs from us working. Then doing what we’re supposed to do and a complete service and a job from start to finish,” Warren said.

Warren said a hurricane like this can affect everyone, even those outside of Florida.

“Anybody that has anybody in the state of Florida, if you haven’t heard from them, I would check on them very seriously with the conditions that are going to be in effect of Florida tonight and tomorrow,” Warren said.

Warren said he and his team will leave on Sunday and arrive by next Tuesday. He said they would stay in Florida for as long as it takes to clean up.
