Seasonal Shopping Begins, More Darkness–Be Aware of Your Surroundings
Murfreesboro Police Chief Michael Bowen
Murfreesboro, TN – Police warn people to be aware of their surroundings. We’re at the beginning of the seasonal shopping season, plus the dark hours of night are increasing. Police Chief Michael Bowen said…
Criminals never want to be caught, so they often take advantage of the more vulnerable people. If you’re a woman or especially a senior citizen–always be aware of your surroundings.
Violent crime is on the increase, and police encourage shoppers to take advantage of training through the Senior Center, RAD classes, personal protection devices, or things that call for help and make loud sounds that draw attention to YOU! Criminals run anytime something draws attention to them.
Back to the original warning–be aware of your surroundings and have a plan of action.
One senior shopper told WGNS that she was in one of the area’s “big box stores” at closing time. As she walked out the front door, she was horrified that the business had turned off all of the lights in the parking lot. She nervously walked to her car in total darkness. There is no excuse for businesses to put their customers in danger, whether it’s by accident or having their lights on a timer. If you see that, notify the police.
In closing, that is a very inconsiderate action by a local merchant. If this continues to be a problem, WGNS will begin runing more stories about similar incidents and making a big deal about the name of the business.
Please, let’s all work together for the safety of our community.
