Segerstrom Center’s Plaza Pass to outdoor entertainment

The Segerstrom Center for the Arts has been using a new Plaza Pass program for reservations to free events at its Julianne and George Argyros  Plaza.

The program has been in place since May,  and is free, however, one must use an account with the Segerstrom Center to sign up for a Plaza Pass, according to its website.

With a pass in hand, guests can use it to access a variety of events planned on the plaza.

After signing up, guests will receive a confirmation email and a pass reservation. Requests are processed and passes released in batches at noon each day, according to the website. Passes will appear as an email alongside its instructions.

From there, the user can print it out, add it to their digital wallet, or take a picture. The ushers at each event will scan the Plaza Pass upon entry.

If the user is attending an event before they receive their Plaza Pass, they may show their confirmation email to the ushers instead.

Segerstrom Center officials said the pass replaces the need to RSVP to shows individually.

There are many events that one may enjoy with their Plaza Pass. Up next is the Summer Sounds: Tropa Magica at 6:30 p.m. tonight, July 26.

Tropa Magica, featuring East LA musicians David and Rene Pacheco, will perform at the Argyros Plaza as part of the Summer Sounds series.

The group mixes various rock subgenres (alternative, grunge, and psychedelic) with cumbia, a Colombian folk music. They have performed at LA festivals such as Desert Daze and supported acts such as Bomba Estereo. One of their most notable releases is “Smells Like Cumbia,” an EP of Nirvana songs performed in cumbia style.

There will be limited seating available. Food trucks and George’s Cafe will sell food during the concert. Lawn chairs are encouraged, as seating will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.
