Sen. Baldwin visits Superior during ‘Business Leaders for Baldwin’ launch

SUPERIOR, Wis. (Northern News Now) – A candidate running in one of the nation’s most closely watched U.S. Senate races visited Superior on Monday.

U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin, along with Superior Mayor Jim Paine, stopped by Thirsty Pagan Brewing to kick off her “Business Leaders for Baldwin” coalition, which represents more than 100 Wisconsin business leaders across a variety of industries.

The coalition focuses on supporting small businesses in Wisconsin, which Baldwin says is the small business powerhouse of the Midwest.

Baldwin, a democrat, is seeking her third term in Washington.

She’s up against republican challenger Eric Hovde.

It’s a race that could play a big role in how the U.S. Senate leans come November’s election.

Baldwin says she thinks there will be fewer ticket splitters this election, or people who don’t strictly vote for one party.

But she’s just focused on her own campaign and meeting voters where they’re at.

“It’s a different dynamic when it’s a presidential year. The turnout is higher, so it really makes me want to get to every corner of the state,” Baldwin said.

Northern News Now also reached out to Hovde’s campaign on Monday.

In a statement, they said in part, Eric Hovde continues to gain momentum, adding that polls are showing it to be a close race. They say Wisconsinites are ready for a change.
