Sen. Ossoff works to secure $250K to support Georgia small businesses

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – President Biden has signed a bill granting more than $250,000 to the University of Georgia’s UGA Small Business Development Center (SBDC).

The purpose of the project is to help small businesses across Georgia access new funding opportunities.

“UGA does a great job already administering these small business centers across Georgia. And it’s about making sure that entrepreneurs in every region of the state, not exclusively in the major metro areas, have access to capital, access to mentorship, and access to markets,” said Ossoff.

Over the past five years, the University of Georgia Small Business Development Center has helped over 2,000 businesses start and small business owners obtain financing over $1 billion.

Kyle Hensel, the director of Continuing Education for the UGA Small Business Development Center said the funding will allow them to help get more women and veterans certified.

“Some of our webinars are going to be about obtaining different types of certifications, like women’s certifications, or veteran certifications, the in-person programs are going to be for veterans, and there’s a brand new veteran certification that has come out in the past couple of years. And it will help them utilize that certification to get more sales with the government,” said Hensel.
