Senator Brown Visits Zanesville, Highlights Efforts to Protect Local Jobs – WHIZ – Fox 5 / Marquee Broadcasting

ZANESVILLE, OH – Senator Sherrod Brown made a stop in Zanesville on October 22nd to highlight his effort to save local jobs by fixing a misguided Biden Administration energy rule.

Brown toured Cliffs Steel Corporation Company in Zanesville, joined by Zanesville Mayor, Don Mason. The senator celebrated his successful push to amend a proposed rule from the Biden Administration that would have impacted steel production, particularly steel used for transformers.

“This affects these workers, it affects rural electric co-op, and it affects a number of jobs in this country. I talked to the company, I talked to the union, and we talked to the mayor. This is one of his most important employers, some of the best paid jobs in Guernsey County, in Muskingum County, and in this region. It’s my job. It’s what do you need. My question is ‘what do you need’ and we figured out the solution to go to the Biden Administration, tell him ‘Don’t do this rule’ and made it clear of the impact it would have.” Senator Brown said.

Mayor Mason expressed his appreciation for Brown’s efforts and recognized the importance of keeping facilities like Cliffs strong.

“I appreciate the efforts of the senator and other people because had this facility closed, it would have made a marketplace imbalance so that the Chinese importing steel would have been able to charge whatever they wanted in the marketplace. Competition is a good thing; he’s helped create a competitive environment.” Mayor Mason said.

Senator Brown is set to face Bernie Moreno in the November election.
