Senator Ted Cruz talks security, jobs during a campaign stop in Brenham

BRENHAM, Texas (KBTX) – With just days until the election, Texas Senator Ted Cruz made a campaign stop in Brenham on Wednesday where KBTX caught up with him for a one-on-one interview.

More than 300 supporters showed up at the Washington County Fair Grounds to support the republican candidate being challenged by Texas’ District 32 Representative Colin Allred.

Sen. Cruz told KBTX he’s ready to be sent back to Washington, D.C. by voters.

“Every election should be a contest between the records of both candidates, and I’ve spent 12 years every single day fighting for 30 million Texans, fighting for jobs, fighting for freedom, fighting for security, and delivering real results.
You know, there’s a reason a thousand people a day moved to Texas. What we’re doing in Texas works: Low taxes, low regulations; an environment where small businesses are growing and expanding. That works.
My record has been fighting for those low taxes, fighting for those low regulations, fighting for small businesses and jobs… I think this Senate race is about one thing: Keeping Texas, Texas,” Sen. Cruz told KBTX.

When it comes to the high-speed rail in Texas, the senator said this is something that should be funded and decided on at the state and local levels.

“I’m a big believer in federalism, leaving decisions that impact the local area up to the local officials in the state officials. From my perspective, I want to get federal regulations and barriers out of the way. So, if the state decides to construct an infrastructure project, I don’t want the federal government to have rules and red tape that slow it down, and I want Texas to decide what’s the best investment to drive jobs to drive economic growth,” added Sen. Cruz.

As he seeks reelection, Sen. Cruz said his record proves he’s able to work with colleagues across the aisle and in the House in order to make sure vital legislation is getting passed.
