SentryWorld plants tens of thousands of flowers at world-famous ‘Flower Hole’
STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAW) – It’s that time of year again when the Flower Hole at SentryWorld Golf Course in Stevens Point is planted for the season.
The par 3, 16th hole is the signature hole of the course and features thousands of flowers of several different types.
A great deal of planning goes into the design. Flowers are planted at Heidi Heath Farms Greenhouse in December or January to get ready for the upcoming season.
“It’s almost a year-round venture,” SentryWorld Director of Golf Danny Rainbow said. “As soon as one golf season ends and the flowers get removed, we already begin planning for next year’s design. Which types of flowers, which colors — what the patterns are going to be.”
A crew of 20 planted 50,000 flowers in just two days. That number used to be 30,000, but since last year’s Men’s U.S. Senior Open, they upped the ante. Friday also marked the opening day for the golf course.
