September 5 Vacaville/Vallejo Arts and Entertainment Source: Vallejo Artwalk adds wine and beer pouring stations

After 10 years transforming the streets with art, vendors and live music, the Vallejo Artwalk’s downtown success has tapped into its next greatest idea.

The tradition will take on a new feature this month with as the Art, Beer, and Wine Walk. The event, the first of its kind in 107 Artwalks, maintains its go-at-your-own-pace feel but with seven designated pouring stations where participants can stop in to fill up their glass and enjoy art and live music.

Each station will be located near art installations, galleries or vendor booths, establishing a blend of art and refreshment. Wine supplied by Vallejo Cellars adds to the celebration of local craftsmanship.

Starting at the Vallejo Museum, located at 734 Marin St., participants will pick up their exclusive Artwalk beer or wine glasses which will serve as their passport to the other stations. The only cost is the glass purchase which is $20 for one, or $30 for two.

In addition to the Vallejo Museum, indoor pouring stations will be located at the Temple Art Lofts where participants can visit Visions of the Wild Festival, Anchor Pantry, Creative Reuse of Vallejo, Ethnic Notions Gallery and Bookstore, The Joint and Tree Bed Design. From mercantile shops to ceramic studios and galleries, participants will embark on a comprehensive tour of the rich artistic offerings.

Two additional stations, Integritea and Alibi Bookshop, will be serving non-alcoholic beverages.

Each station has completed training and received the necessary permit to serve alcohol. According to the permit, each establishment will be responsible for participants’ alcohol consumption. The Artwalk team and participating stations have not set a drink limit, but instead reserve the right to refuse serving additional pours if needed.

The event will also feature professional makeup artist Diana Tenes who will be offering expert makeup and face painting services from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Museum. Tenes has experience transforming attendees of all ages into living works of art and will be open to requests.

“A lot of people ask if there’s face painting when they come to Artwalk,” said Vallejo Artwalk Director Carmen Slack. Responding to the continued interest from kids and adults alike, Slack realized, “people want it, we might as well get it.”

The enormity of arranging this event means it won’t become a monthly tradition anytime soon. But Slack is hopeful that it will return annually.

“I think every year would be fantastic,” added Christina Walkup. The rollout of this inaugural event was strategically scheduled to avoid conflicting with other big arts events, but it also worked out as an end-of-summer event.

“It’s still summer. It’s not freezing and raining yet, so it is a good time,” said Slack.
