September jobless rates drop across the North Bay

Unemployment rates dropped across the six-county North Bay region in September, while California’s 5.3% rate remained the same, according to state figures released Friday.

Within the North Bay, Marin County reported the lowest unemployment rate, at 3.8%, followed by 3.9% in Napa County, according to the state Employment Development Department.

Sonoma and Mendocino counties followed, at 4% and 4.7%, respectively. Solano County’s rate was 5.1%, while Lake County reported the highest unemployment rate in the region, at 5.5%, according to the figures.

Statewide, the private education and health services sector had the largest month-over-month job gains, while the leisure and hospitality industry saw the biggest reduction in jobs, according to the EDD.

Marin County

The unemployment rate in Marin County was 3.8% in September, down from a revised 4.3% in August. The county’s unemployment rate in September 2023 was 3.6%.

The county added jobs in trade, transportation and utilities; private education and health services; and government.

Fewer jobs were available in construction; information services; professional and business services; and leisure and hospitality.

Napa County

The jobless rate in Napa County was 3.9% in September, down from a revised 4.3% in August. The county’s unemployment rate in September 2023 was 3.5%.

The county added jobs in government, and professional and business services. Fewer jobs were available in mining, logging and construction; financial activities; and leisure and hospitality.

Sonoma County

The unemployment rate in Sonoma County was 4% in September, down from a revised 4.5% in August. The county’s unemployment rate in September 2023 was 3.7%.

The county added jobs in government, and professional and business services. Fewer jobs were available in construction; manufacturing; trade, transportation and utilities; private education and health services; and leisure and hospitality.

Mendocino County

Mendocino County showed some job growth in September. It’s jobless rate was 4.7%, down from a revised 5.3% the month prior. In September 2023, the county’s unemployment rate was 4.4%.

The county added jobs in transportation, warehousing and utilities; professional and business services; and private education and health services. Fewer jobs were available in mining, logging and construction; manufacturing; wholesale and retail trades; leisure and hospitality; and local and federal government.

Solano County

The unemployment rate in Solano County was 5.1% in September, down from a revised 5.7% in August. The county’s unemployment rate in September 2023 was 4.6%.

The county added jobs in government, and professional and business services. Fewer jobs were available in construction; trade, transportation and utilities; and leisure and hospitality.

Lake County

The jobless rate in Lake County was 5.5% in September, down from a revised 6.1% in August. The county’s unemployment rate in September 2023 was 5.2%.

The county added jobs in private education and health services, and local and state government. Fewer jobs were available in mining, logging and construction, and leisure and hospitality.
