FALCONER — Sweeping singles competition and one doubles victory secured Falconer a narrow 3-2 victory over Fredonia in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association girls tennis action on Thursday.

Playing pro sets of 10, Falconer’s Myla Brainard beat Nella Darrell-Sterbak and teammate Riley Farrugello topped Gilen Gottinger to secure singles victories for the Golden Falcons 10-6 and 10-1, respectively. Then in second doubles, Falconer’s duo of Mia VandeVelde and Emily Green defeated Fredonia’s Amelia Way and Rosie Manzella 10-4 to secure the match.

Fredonia picked up a win at first doubles as the tandem of Charis LaBarr and Elizabeth Joy got past Rachael Swanson and Elena Barie 10-7. Then in third doubles, Olivia Bach and Michaela Haas finished ahead of Falconer’s Zoie Centi and Hailey Koch 8-7 when play was suspended due to darkness.

FREWSBURG — Frewsburg swept both singles and doubles competition to defeat Cassadaga Valley 5-0 in CCAA play.

Frewsburg’s second doubles duo of Kelsey Fischer and Ella Fuller held off Cassadaga Valley’s tandem of Gia Knott and Xabrina Szablewski in tiebreakers 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-2) to secure the sweep for the Bears. The pair of Lily Harvey and Mackenzie Lobb had little trouble with Addison Helwig and Mya Cusimano in first doubles winning 6-1, 6-1.

Grace Kutschke played perfect for Frewsburg in first singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Adabella O’Hara. Brooke Golab rounded out singles competition with a 6-1, 6-1 win against Isabella Dutton.

Third doubles was claimed by Olivia Grey and Kylee Wakamatsu via forfeit.
