Sex and the City fans gush over show’s most unlikely fashion icon – but who do YOU think has the best sense of style?

Sex and the City may have been off the air since 2004 – although it has since returned as And Just Like That – but people are still regularly talking about the wildly popular HBO show on social media and the stunning sartorial choices.

Recently, people on X, formerly Twitter, started praising one of the show’s style stars… and it might not be who you think.

Folks on Twitter discussed Miranda Hobbes (played by Cynthia Nixon) and praised her fashion, which was previously much maligned.

However, many viewers were happy to jump to her defense, and even said that influencers now would be happy to dress like the on-screen lawyer.

They called Miranda the true fashionista of the show, over Carrie Bradshaw (played by Sarah Jessica Parker).

Poll

Who do you think had the best style on Sex and the City?

  • Carrie Bradshaw 68 votes
  • Samantha Jones 59 votes
  • Miranda Hobbes 24 votes
  • Charlotte York 93 votes

New York City-based fashion stylist Mel Reneé kicked off the conversation when she tweeted that there were people ‘trying to slander Miranda’s style and it shows a lack in versatility of taste’ because ‘Miranda was a chic and serious woman.’

‘She was dressed for her office – where she was bringing in COIN lol,’ Mel tweeted.

‘Style doesn’t have to be flashy, or whimsical to be good – and I love how each character was styled flawlessly to fit their personality,’ Mel continued.

‘Her style would be considered iconic today, could see a bunch of influencers wearing her style especially the street style/fashion week types,’ a SATC fan agreed.

‘Miranda was a corporate fashion baddie!’ one person proclaimed.

Another agreed, ‘She always had on the right outfit for whatever the occasion was. Even if it wasn’t flashy or stood out, she looked good,’ calling her ‘a true New Yorker.’

A fan called her ‘the unsung style icon of the series for sure.’

And while many people didn’t appreciate Miranda’s style when the show originally aired, some liked how it aged over time.

One recent re-watcher recently tweeted, 'Yeah early Miranda Hobbes gives off great 'normcore' style... and while it certainly was pragmatic fashion for its time'

One recent re-watcher recently tweeted, ‘Yeah early Miranda Hobbes gives off great “normcore” style… and while it certainly was pragmatic fashion for its time.’

They continued, ‘I HATED how she looked in the early Sex and the City seasons when I’d watch in the 2000s… but retrospectively? This is very cool.’

On a Reddit thread highlighting Miranda’s fashion choices, plenty of viewers also praised how accessible her outfits were.

‘Tbh I know a lot of women that dress like Miranda,’ one person admitted.

‘Unflattering silhouettes, bold ugly prints, neutral monochromatic looks, random boho chunky jewelry, bad tailoring. She’s the most realistic of them all and I like that!’

‘Miranda’s outfits were the most relatable and realistic of the four,’ another agreed.

Unfortunately, not everyone agrees that Miranda is the standout style star decades after the show originally aired.

When Daily Mail interviewed Gen Z style influencers about their favorite Sex and the City characters, none of them said they emulated Miranda’s fashion sense.

Instead, they focused on wanting to emulate Carrie’s iconic ensembles, whether it was her bodycon dresses or takes on her tutus for festival season.
