SF Mayor Breed proposing plan to create CA’s 1st ‘entertainment zone’ allowing street alcohol sales

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — Mayor London Breed is announcing a new plan to revitalize downtown San Francisco, proposing legislation to create the first “entertainment zone” in California.

The new rule would allow local bars and restaurants to sell alcohol during outdoor events.

The first zone would be on Front Street, between California and Sacramento Streets.

The legislation would also establish a framework for designating future blocks for outdoor fun.

Additionally, the mayor is also announcing a grant program that would provide up to $50,000 to activities, events, and campaigns in the downtown area.

Applications for that program opened Friday and will be accepted on a rolling basis.

This comes as the city continues efforts to bring business to the area as residents moved to remote work.

Earlier this week, Mayor Breed said nightlife could be the key to injecting new life into downtown.
