Sharky’s Sports Bar gets demolished
MT. MORRIS, Ill. (WIFR) – Sharky’s Sports Bar was demolished Monday, seven months after it caught on fire.
The incident took place on April 16, 2024. The fire brought fire crews from all around the region and took them about 30 minutes to put it out. The fire destroyed the business and is still under investigation.
“Something needs to be done. Now, maybe it wasn’t done on purpose, but that’s negligence somewhere along the lines and that’s what I’m talking about in this town.”
Neighbors of the bar say the fire is the symptom of a greater problem in the village. “There is a lot of stuff that goes on in this town. The meth problem – we should start there. That’s what the result of all is right there, and nobody does anything,” they said.
The cause of the fire is unknown, but a neighbor of the bar says she saw what happened.
“That day, I walked to the gas station, to Shell, probably about two hours before he exploded it and he was out there with bottle rockets shooting them all up in the air. He turned around – and it’s on camera at the banks, it’s on camera. So, he turned around and threw one in the building and all of a sudden you heard everything exploding.”
When WIFR reached out to Mount Morris officials and the bar owner, both declined to comment.
