Shohei Ohtani’s Status for Dodgers vs Yankees World Series Game 3 Revealed

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told ESPN’s Karl Ravech that Shohei Ohtani will play in Game 3 of the World Series against the Yankees.

Roberts said Ohtani is “in a great spot and will be playing in Game 3 tomorrow,” per Ravech.

This is a massive sigh of relief for the Dodgers, as Ohtani suffered a shoulder injury in Game 2 of the World Series, a 4-2 Dodgers win.

Ohtani attempted to steal second base in the bottom of the seventh inning, and hurt his shoulder in the process.

On the FOX broadcast, Ken Rosenthal reported that it was a shoulder injury. On the Japanese broadcasts, it was picked up that Ohtani said his shoulder popped out.

Ohtani left Dodger Stadium immediately after the game ended and didn’t speak to reporters. However, Roberts spoke to reporters and provided a promising update on his superstar designated hitter.

“He had a little left shoulder subluxation,” Roberts said. “We’re going to get some tests at some point tonight, tomorrow, and then we’ll know more in the next couple days.

“But the strength was great. The range of motion good. So we’re encouraged. But obviously I can’t speculate because we don’t get the scans yet. So once we get the scans, we’ll know more. Again, with the strength, the range of motion good, that’s certainly a positive.”

Clearly, Ohtani woke up feeling better on Sunday, which is great news for L.A. as they look to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the World Series on Monday.

The Dodgers won Game 1 of the World Series on a Freddie Freeman walk-off grand slam. They escaped Game 2 as the Yankees had the bases loaded and one out in the top of the ninth inning while down two runs. However, Blake Treinen and Alex Vesia each recorded an out, and the Dodgers then hopped on a plane to New York with a 2-0 lead.

While there were obvious concerns about Ohtani, the Dodgers now don’t need to worry, as they’ll have their superstar leadoff hitter on Monday night.

Ohtani had one of the best offensive seasons in MLB history, hitting 54 home runs and driving in 130 RBIs while stealing 59 bases. In his first postseason action, he’s hit .260 with three home runs, 10 RBIs, and an OPS of .863. He’s 1-for-8 thus far in the World Series with a double and walk.
