This weekend, Oklahomans have the chance to legally enjoy one of Americans’ favorite pastimes — tax resistance.

Without having to cry, “No taxation without representation!” everyone in Bartlesville can enjoy saving an extra 8.9% while doing some back-to-school shopping from Aug. 2 to Aug. 4.

Since 2007, Oklahoma has waived state, county and city sales tax for one weekend each year, thanks to state legislators’ efforts to help families stretch their dollars, especially with inflation biting into budgets.

The tax-free holiday applies to any clothing and footwear priced at under $100 per item. Accessories or clothing intended for athletic activity or protective use are not eligible, so tax will still be applied to these items.

Shoppers can use coupons to lower an item’s price to under $100. However, manufacturer’s coupons won’t count toward bringing an item under the $100 threshold, as they require the store to seek a reimbursement.

The tax holiday also applies to online purchases, provided the items are bought and paid for within the weekend.
