Shoppers flock to downtown Cape Girardeau for Small Business Saturday

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) – Many people came out to support several small businesses in downtown Cape Girardeau for Small Business Saturday.

This event allows many downtown shops a chance to get their name out there.

According to the Federal Small Business Administration, for every $100 spent at a local business, $68 will stay in the community.

Downtown business owners said shopping local is an investment that stretches beyond their stores.

“So Small Business Saturday it’s something I think about all year long you know,” said Emilie Buelow, owner of Annie Em’s Antiques and Gift Shop. “It’s so important to shop not just today but every day with your businesses and small community because those are the people also supporting your community, they are the people supporting your kid’s soccer team they’re sponsoring your kid’s baseball team and they’re the ones buying your girls scout cookies. They are giving back to the community as well cause they know how important it is.”

“For us that really helps us to understand that the community still wants us around honestly and that they’re still supporting local and keeping us in the community,” explained Hempies General Manager Ciara Cooley.

Small Business Saturday is expected to generate over $17 billion across the country according to Business Wire.
