Shoppers support North Platte businesses on Small Business Saturday

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) – The North Platte Area Chamber Development is hosting the Shop North Platte Program, which started on Tuesday and will run until Dec. 17, 2024. Shoppers can visit participating businesses to collect tickets for a chance to win $5,000 encouraging local support during the holiday season.

The program is part of a nationwide initiative inspired by Small Business Saturday, encouraging people to shop at local businesses.

Founded by American Express in 2010, Small Business Saturday has become a pivotal event for boosting small businesses and strengthening local economies. Since 2011, the Small Business Administration has co-sponsored the movement, helping to grow its impact.

“It’s just supporting the local place where you live and the families it impacts. It’s just having an impact where you are,” said Erin, a shopper from Wyoming. “Shopping small is a great way to support the community, and we love North Platte and everything it provides,” added Erin’s sister Ashley from Colorado. “So, we just want to keep giving back.”

Local business owners have observed a shift in shopping habits.

“I see that there has been more online shopping,” said Stacie Bruns, manager of Bow & Arrow Boutique. “And I would encourage everybody to come down and shop local. We are here to help you, and we need support too.”
