The holidays can get expensive, but when thinking about where you’ll be spending the most money, you’re likely considering gifts. While those can add up and quickly go over budget, it’s the little things you didn’t budget for that may break the bank — like decorating supplies, cooking ingredients, baking supplies, indoor decorations, holiday lights and gift wrap.

That’s why Dollar Tree is a great place to shop during the fall. Here’s what shopping pros and financial experts recommend you stock up on this fall before the real spending starts.

Baking Items

For those who look forward to holiday cooking and baking, nothing beats the deals at Dollar Tree on measuring cups, mixing bowls and baking sheets, said Houston, Texas-based Kevin Shahnazari, founder and CEO of FinlyWealth.

Pantry Staples

Some good holiday items to stock up on would be canned pineapple, canned pie fillings, and frozen veggies for holiday side dishes, advised Jessica Clark, founder of Gluten Free Supper. Many of these items are gluten free, but always read the labels before purchasing, suggested Clark. You can also stock up on spices, candy and treats you’ll need for holiday baking for as low as $1.25. Just don’t make any of these these 8 Dollar Tree shopping mistakes along the way.

Gift Wrap

It’s never too early to stock up on gift wrapping items for the holiday season. The Dollar Tree’s gift wrap is always within a budget, said Shahnazari. It might be best for small kids’ gifts where they are more likely to tear into the wrapping papers and care less if the quality isn’t as high. While you’re there buying holiday gift wrap, grab a few extra birthday and plain gift bags and tissue paper packages for gift wrapping needs throughout the year. You can thank us later for saving you the trip.

“Last year, I purchased all of our gift bags at the Dollar Tree,” Clark noted. “They are really big, good quality and have a ton of different designs to choose from. The best part is that they are only $1.25 each.” She also recommended stocking up on bows, tape and gift tags at the discount store.

Home Organizing Supplies

Beat the January “decluttering” crowds and pick up extra home organizing storage bins at The Dollar Tree this fall. One FinlyWealth user estimated they saved $75 on home office organizing by relying on discount options like The Dollar Tree, Shahnazari said.

Cleaning Supplies

“At Dollar Tree, I suggest focusing on cleaning supplies and pantry essentials to save money,” said Stephen Boatman, CFP, CLSP, Principal at Flat Fee Financial. Items like cleaning sprays, sponges, disinfectant wipes, rags and paper towels are essential for fall cleaning and holiday meal prep. “These products are significantly cheaper than those at major retailers — and they perform just as well,” the Charlotte, N.C.-based financial expert noted.

Twinkly Lights

“One seasonal gem I recommend from Dollar Tree this fall is their variety pack of LED holiday lights,” recommended Hanzel Talorete, content manager of Get Smart Series.

“These aren’t just for ambiance; they’re energy-efficient, cost significantly less than similar offerings at big box retailers, and add a warm, festive glow as days get shorter,” Talorete said. “This simple switch not only brightens your space, but also trims the electricity bill, making it a smart pick for budget-savvy households.”

Build the Perfect Thanksgiving Tablescape

“Many of my clients are just learning how to host parties in their home, or are working to level up their style on a tight budget,” said Bethany Skorik, Chicago-based Etiquette Expert, Communications Executive, Lifestyle Coach at The Charming Diplomat. “I love helping people and families live a more refined lifestyle on a budget, and these options [below] are classy, well made and incredibly affordable. I consider them dupes for products normally 20 times their price.”

  • Charger plates: “This beautiful charger plate is one of my favorite Dollar Tree finds of all time,” Skorik said. It has a classy bronze finish, and is neutral enough to be styled into multiple themes.
  • Classic dinner plates: The above chargers can be paired with these classic white-with-gold trim dinnerplates to complete a beautiful, leveled up look, noted Skorik.
  • Napkin rings: This is an excellent way to bring extra sparkle to your table, said Skorik. “Dollar Tree carries small seasonal clips that can be added to ribbon or twine for a rustic pop of color.”
  • Candle holders: These brushed metal candle holders compliment the chargers, and will illuminate your table in soft light–great for family photos.
  • Tapered candles: “I recommend choosing a candle color that compliments the napkin holders, such as ivory or warm red,” Skorik encouraged.

With so many cheap options to buy ahead of the holiday season at Dollar Tree, why wait for when you may have too much on your plate?
