Should Walmart get into sports? Here’s why it may make sense.

You might be surprised to learn that retail and supply chain expert Brittain Ladd’s big predictions for Walmart (WMT) have nothing to do with the brick-and-mortar stores themselves.

On Opening Bid with Yahoo Finance Executive Editor Brian Sozzi, Ladd emphasizes acquiring a major team or stadium, of all things. “I think Walmart acquiring the Los Angeles Chargers or another NFL team and Walmart building a stadium in Bentonville, Arkansas — Walmart Field, home of the Arkansas Chargers,” he expains. “I tried to get ’em to buy the Chicago Bears… but they just were like, ‘oh, wow, that’s not something we want to do.'”

The real point here, he further explains, is that Walmart needs to diversify: “I think that Walmart should step back and say, how do we diversify 15% of our business by 2030?”
