Shuttered Woodland Park movie theater to reopen with in-theater dining

Dinner and a movie is once again a possibility in Woodland Park.

Gold Hill Theatres, which closed in October, will reopen Friday with four screens offering new releases at 615 Midland Ave. Movie times are available online at goldhilltheatres.com.

The theater also will offer in-theater dining at some point after opening day, with sandwiches, salads, appetizers and milkshakes from Pikes Peak Food Factory delivered to moviegoers’ seats. Beer and wine are now available and theater staff is working to obtain a full liquor license to sell mixed drinks.

“We’re implementing fun things like UFC fights and maybe joining with film festivals to show indie films,” said human resources manager Jessica Andersen. “We might have a game night and host a Call of Duty competition.”

A new arcade, Cloud City Arcade, with virtual reality, prize and classic arcade games, also will open sometime after opening day.

After Bill Page opened the theater in the mid-’70s, a few different owners and operators grabbed the helm over the decades.

The pandemic had a devastating affect on the theater, though, as it did with many movie theaters around the country, and shuttered the mountain town’s only movie theater.

A few months ago Page found a way to reopen the doors and stepped back in as the physical operator, says general manager Michael Andersen.

“They were having a hard time keeping it staffed and bouncing back after COVID-19 and getting people to walk in the door,” Jessica said.

“Now we’re at a point in time where people have gotten past COVID-19 and are going out. If you have new exciting things to check out, it makes them more enticed to come back.”

Tickets are $10-$12; ages 2-11 are $10. Tickets for matinees, the first show of the day, are $9-$10.
