MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) –

Alvin Karma rushed for three scores and caught a TD pass as New Orleans stunned Dallas, 44-19 on Sunday. Saints quarterback Derek Carr threw for 243 yards and two touchdowns as New Orleans halted the Cowboys’ 16-game home winning streak. Cowboy quarterback Dak Prescott threw for one score and 293 yards but had two interceptions. The Saints (2-0) will host the Philadelphia Eagles this Sunday.

Texas took over the top spot in the Associated Press Top Ten as Georgia fell to second, after a lackluster 13-12 win at Kentucky. Ohio State, Alabama, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Missouri, Miami, Oregon and Penn State followed, in that order.

The No. 5 Ole Miss Rebels were dominant again with their first road win of the season, 40-6, over Wake Forest. Ole Miss raced to a 20-3 first quarter lead, but the Rebels were far from perfect as they were penalized 11 times for 114 yards and turned the ball over twice. The Rebels had 650 yards of offense, forced two turnovers and held their third straight opponent out of the end zone. Ole Miss (3-0) hosts Georgia Southern (2-1) this Saturday.

Southern Miss bolted out to a 14-0 lead in the opening eight minutes of the game before South Florida rallied to overtake the Golden Eagles and claim a 49-24 win. USM (1-2) hits the road to Jacksonville State (0-3) this Saturday.

Toledo scored three touchdowns in the second quarter to defeat Mississippi State, 41-17, in a non-conference contest in Starkville. Mississippi State (1-2, 0-0) hosts Florida (1-2, 0-1) this Saturday at 11 a.m.

Jackson State opened SWAC action with a 33-15 win over Southern University as J.D. Martin, Ahmad Miller and Irv Mulligan all had rushing touchdowns. Jackson State (2-1,1-0) travels to Grambling this Saturday. Alcorn quarterback Xzavier Vaughn rushed for three scores as the Braves kicked off the home campaign with a 38-7 win over Edward Walters University. The Braves (1-2) travel to McNeese State this Saturday. Mississippi Valley fell on the road, 59-8, to Murray State and travels to Nichols State this week.

Millsaps is off to a 2-0 start as they defeated John Melvin University, 46-0, on Sunday. The Majors host Bridgewater this Saturday. Delta State lost to Wingate, 21-7, ending the Statesmen’s 13-game road winning streak. DSU (2-1, 0-0) now hosts Fort Valley this Saturday. Mississippi College (0-2) fell to Texas A&M Kingsville, 27-7, and hosts North Greenville this Saturday. Trinity University blasted Belhaven, 55-10, and the Blazers (0-2) travel to Brevard College this Saturday.

Gulf Coast downed Jones in a key South Division game, 27-20, while Holmes whipped Coahoma, 42-23, and Northwest downed East Mississippi, 33-14, in North play. Other winners were Co-Lin, East Central and Pearl River. The Northeast at Mississippi Delta game was postponed until October 3. Jones (2-1, 0-1) will host Co-Lin (2-1,1-0) in a key South Division contest. Other Thursday night games are Northwest (2-1, 1-0) at Coahoma (0-3, 0-1), Holmes (3-0, 1-0) at Northeast (1-1, 0-0), Gulf Coast (3-0, 1-0) at Southwest (0-3, 0-1, Pearl River (2-1, 1-0) at East Central (2-1, 0-0) and Itawamba (2-1,0-0) at East Mississippi (1-2, 0-1). Hinds (0-3, 0-1) will travel to Mississippi Delta (0-2,0-0) for a 2 p.m. game this Thursday.

Odds & Ends

Brandon native Gardner Minshew led three scoring drives in the fourth quarter in leading the Las Vegas Raiders past the Baltimore Ravens, 26-23. Minshew was 30-of-38 for 276 yards on the day.

Former MSU quarterback Will Rogers threw his 100thtouchdown of his college career in Washington’s loss to Washington, 24-19, last Saturday.Rogers was 23-of-31 for 314 yards and one TD against WSU. For the season he has thrown six touchdown passes.

The Biloxi Shuckers finished second in the Southern League South Division and host first place Montgomery this Tuesday, September 17, before heading to the Alabama capital city on Thursday and Friday in the three-game playoff series.
