All Requirements for the Rebirth Ending in Silent Hill 2
There are a few factors to consider if players want to get the Rebirth ending in the Silent Hill 2 remake. Firstly, not only must players be in a New Game Plus playthrough, but they must also find specific collectibles that are scattered across the chapters. There are 4 collectibles in total for the Rebirth ending, and these ritual items may have dire consequences:
- Start a New Game Plus playthrough
- Pick up Crimson Ceremony from the Graveyard
- Pick up White Chrism from Baldwin Mansion
- Pick up the Obsidian Goblet from the Historical Society
- Pick up Lost Memories from Lakeview Hotel
- Defeat the final boss
Start New Game Plus
The first step players must take to obtain the secret Rebirth ending in Silent Hill 2 is to start a game on New Game Plus. Upon everyone’s first playthrough, they will only be able to earn one of three endings: Leave, Maria, and In Water. After the first playthrough is complete, the Main Menu will have a new option for New Game, in which players can begin in New Game Plus. Doing so will allow players to unlock the Chainsaw one-hit melee weapon and the items necessary to collect for the Rebirth ending.
Find the Crimson Ceremony in the Graveyard
Upon starting a New Game, players will want to head from James’ car to the Graveyard where they meet Angela. After the cutscene with Angela, remain in the Graveyard but head North and hug the wall until you near the lake. Players are looking for a fractured grave that has the symbol of an eye on the headstone. Buried in front of this grave will be the first collectible, the Crimson Ceremony.
Find the White Chrism at Baldwin Mansion
After players reach the West Side of South Vale after the Blue Creek Apartments chapter, they will be venturing with Maria. After solving the gate puzzle at Jacks Inn, players want to head directly opposite so they can enter the Baldwin Mansion’s porch. On the right of the porch, players can pick up the White Chrism item, which will be the second ritual item needed for the Rebirth ending.
Find the Obsidian Goblet in the Historical Society
After the Brookhaven Hospital chapter, players will have to venture across the Otherworld version of South Vale until they reach the Silent Hill Historical Society. Once in this building, head to the painting of Pyramid Head, and turn left. On the left wall will be a metal frame holding a goblet inside. Players need to pick up this Obsidian Goblet to claim the third ritual item.
Find the Lost Memories in Lakeview Hotel
Once players have access to the Lakeview Hotel, they will want to head through 1F’s Lobby and through Café Toluca, taking a right to find a breakable wall. Once players destroy the wall, they will be able to enter the Lost & Found room that is behind the Check-In room. Inside the Lost & Found room, to the right on a desk, will be the green book titled Lost Memories. Picking this item up provides the fourth and final ritual item for the Rebirth ending.
Once players

in

Remake, the Rebirth ending will automatically begin during a cutscene as long as players have all 4 collectibles, thus making it impossible to miss.

Rebirth Ending, Explained
The Rebirth ending sees James return to his boat to row across Toluca Lake, alongside the corpse of his wife, Mary. James speaks to Mary in the boat and speaks of the Old Gods, and how with their health, they can provide the power to defy death, and thus resurrect Mary from her fate. The ending showcases James’ determination and dwindling sanity as he defies the natural order of things to resolve his guilt and return his wife to him.
James uses the ritual items found across Silent Hill and is determined to wake the Old Gods with them to receive life in his wife in return. The screen fades to black as James rows to an undisclosed island, and the fate of James and Mary is left uncertain. Did James resurrect Mary, or has he damned himself?
