Sioux City church hosts free Christmas ‘shopping’ outreach

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – A Sioux City church spent their Saturday spreading Christmas cheer to families in need. Worship City Church hosted their first Giving Hope Christmas Outreach.

The church reached out to families in the area through the church’s food pantry, and their partnership with the Gospel Mission.

Parents and families got a chance to come in and church members shared the gospel with them, and offered to pray for the families after they were done shopping.

Thanks to generous donations, the church was able to provide brand new toys for over 100 children.

“We’ve done sponsor packets the whole month of November, and all of our church members have sponsored a child for Christmas this year,” said Worship City Church’s marketing director, Emily Reynders. “We had a list of different toy options from age 0 all the way up to 12 plus; we have something for everybody.”

Kids that were receiving gifts were off in another area of the church while their family picked out gifts, had them wrapped and loaded into their family’s car.

“The kids don’t know [their parents are shopping], because our heart is for the parents to be the superheroes on Christmas,” said Reynders. “We don’t want any of the glory, we want God to have the glory and we want the kids to know that mom and dad are the superheroes on Christmas day; and most importantly, we want to give them the message of lifelong hope that’s in Jesus.”

Every family was sent home with a free bible and an invitation to the church’s Christmas Eve services.
