Sioux Falls confident entering must-win game at Little League World Series

WILLIAMSPORT, PA (Dakota News Now) – For the kids of the Sioux Falls Little League team going to the World Series in Williamsport has been the best summer vacation of their lives.

If they want to extend it, they’ll have to win tomorrow in an elimination game and, perhaps to the chagrin of their parents, they’ve proven pretty good at putting off their back to school shopping during this postseason run!

The team was back on the practice fields in Williamsport today in preparation for tomorrow’s game with Metro Champion Staten Island.S

Sioux Falls is no stranger to this situation having lost in both the state and regional tournaments. When facing elimination they are 6-0 so it’s easy to see why head coach Nick Kortan is confident his team will bounce back.

They still have plenty of good pitching available, so the question is whether the bats will return to form after managing just two hits in their 2-1 loss to Florida on Wednesday.

“We still have two of our best available so I feel good about where we’re going to be at from a pitching standpoint. If we can continue to play defense the way that we did I am confident that our bats will come alive. We faced a heck of a good pitcher, he challenged us and we just didn’t get the hits when we needed to, but we’ll be ready for the next round.” Kortan says.

Sioux Falls and Staten Island will square off on Saturday at 2:00 PM CST. The winner faces Great Lakes Region Champion Hinsdale, Illinois, in another elimination game at 8:00 AM on Sunday.
