Sioux Valley Sports Club donates outdoor equipment to kids in the community at its annual Youth Banquet

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – The Sioux Valley Sports Club gave away donated outdoor equipment to kids in one local community Sunday afternoon at the Little Sioux Park Shelter House in Correctionville.

For over 10 years the organization holds an adult fall banquet to raise funds to supply kids with outdoor gear they need for outdoor activities. This previous fall, they raised more than $50,000.

At the banquet, up to 150 kids ages four to 15, stopped by to grab fishing poles, and other hunting equipment supplied by American Brothers and Arms, and other local businesses.

“It’s all about outdoor activities, promoting family togetherness and being able to give back to kids that may not be able to get these items otherwise,” said Kevin Clausen, Sioux Valley Sports Club Vice President. “So, you get your fishing gear, your camping gear, your hunting gear, as well as just some family and fellowship together.”

Sioux Valley Sports Club supplied free food for all families that attended.

The requirements to attend the youth banquet is simple, adults need to participate in the fall banquet to allow their kids or grandkids to receive outdoor supplies.

“You know I say this fills my bucket for the year, it’s a little bit of effort obviously to put on the fall banquet but it is so worth it when you see these kids come through the line and get their items, we give them a meal as well and they leave with their hands full and gifts that they’ll be able to use for years to come,” said Clausen.

After this event, the rest of the money raised will go towards local school districts in the Woodbury and Ida County area. This year’s adult banquet will take place in November.
