SiouxFalls.Business: Checking in on holiday shopping, new downtown gallery
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – Jodi Schwan with SiouxFalls.Business visited to discuss how the holiday shopping season is going for Sioux Falls retailers and a new gallery on Phillips Avenue.
Holiday Shopping
Retailers say shoppers started early and they’re now realizing that it’s also Christmas crunch time because there is one fewer weekend between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
In some cases, shoppers seem to be gravitating more toward the basics. Two retailers are marking their first seasons in Sioux Falls. Both say consumers are responding on the higher end. Dillard’s says its women’s apparel has sold great. For those stretching their budgets, Kid to Kid resale shop said it’s been busy as shoppers appreciate they can buy more by buying slightly used.
El’s Gallery
While you’re out shopping, you’ll also find there’s a new place to buy local and regional art downtown.
El’s Gallery is open on Phillips Avenue just north of 12th Street. Owner Ellen Clausen is an artist herself and wanted to bring a new place for both established artists as well as those who have never sold their work to reach consumers.
Prices range from $50 to $3,500, so it’s an accessible way to add a little local art to your home or office.
