SiouxFalls.Business Report: Steel District openings and future of Citibank campus
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – Jodi Schwan with SiouxFalls.Business stopped by to discuss the new businesses set to open in the Steel District and what the future of the recently-listed Citibank campus could hold.
Retail and restaurants in the Steel District
Later this month, the first retailers will open at the Steel District, including Pasque Boutique and Alcove, which is a museum store from the Washington Pavilion.
Three new restaurants will open later this fall, including Big Sioux Burger, Dahlia and Ironwood, which is a high-end steakhouse.
By next year, Jack Rose Social Club plans to open a second Sioux Falls location next to the retailers and it will be a much larger version of the one at 69th and Western with a patio adjacent to Levitt at the Falls.
Citibank campus for sale
The former Citibank campus is for sale for $34 million. The 70-acre property is where the state’s credit card industry took root in the 1980s and includes three former call center buildings and a daycare.
The buildings can be sold together or separately. The listing agent says they’re being realistic and flexible about the space but would like to see it go to a local buyer who understands the significance of the site in state history.
The office environment has changed drastically with hybrid and remote work, so there is not much need for this sort of open space in many cases. It could become another corporate center or it could become partially industrial, used for storage, nonprofits or entertainment centers.
