Sirsa cops size 26K bottles of illegal liquor, Rs 31L in gambling in 2024 – The Tribune

In 2024, the Sirsa police took steps to tackle illegal liquor smuggling and gambling in the district. As part of their ongoing efforts, the police have arrested hundreds of individuals and seized large quantities of illegal goods.

According to Superintendent of Police Vikrant Bhushan, the police have registered 590 cases related to illegal liquor trade so far this year. In these operations, 632 persons have been arrested for their involvement in the illicit alcohol business. The police seized a large quantity of contraband liquor, including 10,945 bottles of country liquor, 3,148 bottles of illegal foreign liquor, 12,290 bottles of English liquor, 245 bottles of beer, and 27,440 liters of lahan, an essential raw material used in the production of illicit alcohol.

In addition to its action against liquor smuggling, the Sirsa police have also focused on illegal gambling and betting activities. As part of the ongoing campaign, the police have registered 174 cases related to gambling and betting and arrested 329 persons involved in these illegal activities. The police have successfully recovered Rs 31,97,360, the amount seized from the arrested individuals, which was being used for gambling and betting purposes.

SP Bhushan, claimed that these actions had a significant impact on reducing crime and preventing the spread of illegal activities in the district. He also called on the public to continue supporting the police by reporting any illegal activities they might witness. Bhushan assured the public that the police would take prompt legal action against any person found indulging in illegal practices.
