Skatta Burrell responds to Popcaan’s onstage remarks at Freedom Street

Dancehall artiste Popcaan came out swinging when he hit the stage at last night’s Freedom Street at the National Stadium in St Andrew.

Directing his ire at Downsound Entertainment executive and producer Cordel ‘Skatta’ Burrell, Popcaan levied a widely recognised Jamaican insult against Burrell and his mother. Freedom Street was organised and promoted by Downsound Entertainment.

It is unclear where the issues started, but according to Popcaan, it stems from the inability to enter the event venue.

“How you have me and Chronic Law out a door three hour, cyaah come in?” Popcaan continued.

As the insults were hurled, several Freedom Street production team members were seen surrounding Burrell.

Popcaan’s set continued, but fellow dancehall artiste Chronic Law also hurled similar insults without mentioning any names.

Burrell has responded to statements made by dancehall artiste Popcaan at last night’s Freedom Street.

In a video posted on his Instagram, Burrell expressed his concern over the remarks made on stage, particularly as his mother is currently in the hospital.

He pointed out the culture of disrespecting promoters on stage.

“Nuff time artiste go pan di stage and diss up the promoter and diss up certain people, because dem know seh the promoter have to keep the peace because a fi dem event and dem have everything fi lose…”

He pointed to the inappropriate nature of the statements at “big Freedom Street concert, Kartel’s return”.

He did not address Popcaan’s claim that he was unable to enter the venue and made to wait for three hours.
