Sky Harbor sees record-breaking travel this year

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Airports experienced record-breaking numbers of travelers this Thanksgiving weekend.

The TSA reported that nearly 3 million people passed through on Dec. 1, marking the highest figure ever recorded, and the trend is expected to continue.

Over 150,000 travelers passed through Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix during the holiday weekend.

“Thanksgiving is always our busiest time of year, and this year is no different,” Sky Harbor spokesperson Eric Everts said. “There have been a lot of people coming through the airport, traveling for the holidays.”

Typically, Thanksgiving weekend is the busiest of all holidays, and TSA reports that they have been breaking records throughout the entire year.

“All top-10 days in our history have occurred in 2024,” TSA spokesperson Daniel Velez said. “It has been a very busy year for the TSA and airlines, and we still have one more holiday period to go.”

This year, Sky Harbor is also experiencing record-breaking numbers, with travel up by 8%.

“Usually, there’s no line and you can walk right up, but flying home this time was super busy,” said traveler Creighton Dean.

As we approach the holidays, the TSA advises travelers to plan ahead and be prepared. They recommend arriving for your flights at least two hours early.
