Slippery Travel Concerns Linger into the Weekend, with Cooler Air Settling in

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) – Good evening everyone and happy Thursday. After a slippery start to the day today, snow showers continued for much of the day. The area of low pressure responsible for the snow sat overhead today, and is moving eastward tonight into tomorrow. This means improvement is expected the remainder of the week and into the weekend, with some sunshine returning to the forecast by the time we get to Sunday. Temperatures during this stretch are expected to cool off, with highs tomorrow struggling to reach the lower 20s, with temperatures over the weekend struggling to make it into the teens.

Going hour by hour through the rest of tonight shows snow showers slowly tapering off as the night progresses on. Slippery travel concerns remain in place the rest of tonight, as temperatures continue to cool off and allow for surfaces to re-freeze. Keep this in mind if you have any travel plans the remainder of tonight into tomorrow morning, as improvement isn’t expected until the daytime hours tomorrow. Lows tonight are expected to fall back into the mid and upper teens for most areas. Westerly winds will be gusty at times tonight, with wind gusts up to 40 mph possible before sunrise tomorrow morning.

Tomorrow ends up being slightly better than today, but not by much with snow showers still lingering for a good portion of the day. I don’t expect much in terms of accumulation with snow showers tomorrow, the main factor will just be flakes flying about through the afternoon. High temperatures tomorrow will be colder than today, with highs struggling to warm into the lower 20s. Westerly winds will still be the big influence on the forecast here tomorrow, resulting in cooler temperatures settling in.
