Small Business Saturday bringing sales to West Hartford Center

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB) – Black Friday may have ended, but the sales aren’t done yet. Small Business Saturday is here, a chance to shop small and local.

Several businesses on Farmington Avenue in West Hartford will be having sales. Businesses like Bodhii Boutique.

“We think it’s very important this time of year for everybody to be out shopping small,” says owner Justice Pellegrino.

Why? Pellegrino says the holiday season can make or break a small business, so she’s more than happy to offer promotions for Small Business Saturday.

A holiday created by American Express around 15 years ago to encourage people to support independent retailers.

”Tomorrow we are doing a few different promos. The first is, we’re going to be hosting another small business here, it’s a local skin care studio,” says Pellegrino. “If you show us any receipt from another small business, we’re giving you 15% off your whole purchase. We’re also doing a gift card promo. Encouraging people to buy gift cards from small businesses so if you buy a $50 gift card from us tomorrow, we’re giving you a $10 one for free. If you buy a $100 gift card from us, we’re giving you a $20 one for free.”

Around the corner, Casey Graham says Green Tails Market is doing the same.

”We have a bunch of Buy One, Get One deals and sale items for people to come and check out,” says Graham.

The eco-friendly pet store has called the West Hartford Center home for a little more than a year, but first got into business 11 years ago, started by a local couple who wanted to give your furry friends something special.

”We have all kinds of small batched-based foods that you can’t find in other stores,” says Graham. “The food is fresher. We have freeze-dried raw food for example.”

A reminder that when you shop for Small Business Saturday, you’re making more of an impact than you may think.

”You’re also supporting local families,” says Graham.

“It really is making such a big difference. We literally do a dance every sale. You’re supporting local people’s dreams, families,” says Pellegrino.
