Small Business Saturday encourages local shopping for holidays in Marquette

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) – As Thanksgiving draws to a close, the Marquette Downtown Development Authority (DDA) wants to remind you of the importance of shopping small.

This weekend is Small Business Saturday. The event started nationally in 2010 to incentivize shopping in your community.

Mike Bradford, the Marquette DDA business outreach and promotions director, says last year Small Business Saturday had the largest turnout nationwide.

Bradford says around $20 billion was spent on that weekend nationally.

Bradford says in downtown Marquette alone, there are more than 100 businesses with unique offerings to visit.
