Small Business Saturday returns to Arlington and Falls Church this weekend | ARLnow.com

The holiday shopping rush will continue after Black Friday with a local Small Business Saturday push.

Twenty-two stores and restaurants in Arlington and Falls Church are slated to participate in the program, which will go through Sunday this year.

Shoppers are encouraged to complete a shopping “passport” by visiting at least eight participating stores. If they do, they will have the chance to win one of three grand prize baskets.

“Unlike past years, this year’s Passport program runs for the whole weekend,” Eileen McGervey, owner of One More Page Books in East Falls Church, told ARLnow. “We have more stores and restaurants participating this year and having it run for the weekend gives folks time to shop and refresh without feeling so rushed.”

Passports will be available for pickup at any of 22 participating stores and restaurants, which will give out stamps to customers. Purchases are not required to collect a stamp, and completed passports can be dropped off at any participating business.

Prize winners will be drawn at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at One More Page. Prize baskets contain gift cards and items selected by the participating businesses.

In addition to the Weekend Passport program, One More Page will itself celebrate Small Business Saturday with free books, snacks and an in-store scavenger hunt.

“Small Business Saturday is one of our biggest sales days of the year,” McGervey said. “Folks in Arlington [and] Falls Church are very supportive of local businesses and love any excuse to demonstrate their support. … It’s quite humbling as a store owner to receive such kindness and makes us feel wonderful and appreciated.”
