Small Business Training Week Highlights
Small business professionals from across the country gathered in Chicago, IL for the annual DoD Small Business Training Week. This year’s theme, “Breaking Down Small Business Barriers: Strategies for Success and Igniting the Future,” underscored the event’s importance as a cornerstone in DoD’s efforts to support and empower small business professionals, offering a platform for collaboration, innovation, and growth.
With over 50 government speakers from agencies such as the Department of Defense, Small Business Administration, Minority Business Development Agency, and General Services Administration, attendees gained diverse insights on topics ranging from new legislation and regulatory updates to policy changes and best practices.

HON Gabe Camarillo Keynote:
One of the highlights of the event was the keynote address delivered by HON Gabe Camarillo, Under Secretary of the Army, Department of Defense. In his address, Under Secretary Camarillo emphasized the crucial role played by small business professionals in fostering innovation, enhancing efficiency, and bolstering resilience within the defense industrial base. He reiterated that the contributions of small business professionals are indispensable for upholding our nation’s security and maintaining technological superiority.
Small Business Directors Town Hall
Ms. Kim Buehler, SES Director of Army Office of Small Business, participated in the panel alongside other small business directors and fielded questions from the audience. This interactive session provided attendees with the opportunity to engage directly with small business leaders and gain insights into key issues and priorities.
Army Breakout Session
The Army hosted a breakout session during which Megan Dake, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army Procurement, delivered opening remarks. During the breakout session, small business professionals engaged in a discussion aimed at identifying strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT). This SWAT analysis provided valuable insights into the current landscape of small business operations and the challenges they face. Moreover, it laid the groundwork for collaborative efforts throughout the year. Through this collaborative approach, participants were able to explore innovative solutions to common challenges.
