Smart shopping tips to maximize savings this Labor Day weekend

Labor Day Weekend is approaching and Americans strapped for cash are looking to make their dollars stretch.

“Labor Day is one of the best three-day weekends for sales,” explainedTrae Bodge, a smart shopping expert.

She said you will see good deals on mattresses, appliances, furniture, clothes, and shoes this holiday weekend.

You’re going to be seeing discounts, 60% off plus. So it’s a really good time to plan ahead for families. It’s also really good for parents who perhaps didn’t get everything they needed for back to school yet.

Shoppers plan to spend an average of $354 Labor Day weekend, according to RetailMeNot.

Target, Walmart, Home Depot, Amazon, Wayfair, Kohl’s, that’s where you’re going to find those big, big discounts. I would also say that if there’s a brand that you like, go directly to that brand because they will be having Labor Day sales.

“Online shopping allows an ease to saving so you can do more price comparison,” the expert noted.

Bodge said there are some things you should buy in person.

“If you’re buying clothing and you’re not super familiar with that brand, you should try things on and lay on that mattress, sit on that couch, so you can have that real experience with the item because it is getting harder and harder to return things. Return fees are back in a real way, and so you should really get there in person. Now, I would say while you’re shopping in that store, you should be using your phone and comparing prices online, because if you find a lower price online, many retailers will price match.”

A new Bankrate survey shows that 74% of Americans think inflation erases their hard work. At the same time, the majority believe Labor Day sales offer good deals.

Experts say it is not the time to buy Christmas decor, because you can get it cheaper later. If you don’t see the sale you want, another round of sales is coming in October.
