Snap Krackle Pop Fireworks in Biloxi sees influx of business on New Year’s Eve, urges firework safety
BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) – Ryan Mayer is ready to kick off New Year’s Eve festivities with his two children.
Ryan Mayer took them to Snap Krackle Pop Fireworks in Biloxi Tuesday afternoon to shop for fireworks.
Mayer’s kids are still young, which is why he’s trying to keep them safe by sticking with the smaller fireworks.
“The torpedo ones, they’re really loud. Snap, pops, really loud,” Mayer said. “Hopefully it turns out pretty good. We keep a hose ready and everything and a bucket of water and a mop so they don’t respark.”
Brice Romero was also there looking for something to light up the night with his wife and kids.
“They’re young. Nine, six, and one, so they don’t like anything fancy. Roman candles, they like that,” Romero said.
Snap Krackle Pop owner Robert Anderson says sales are going well for New Year’s Eve.
He said it’s something he sees often during the holidays.
“Pretty much all the options that are legal we sell,” Anderson said. “I believe because maybe Christmas, you know, people are spending money on presents and then fireworks. It just becomes a lot, especially with today’s economy.”
Anderson also said he encourages those celebrating to use good judgment and for parents to not leave younger children unsupervised when popping fireworks this New Year’s Eve.
“Follow the directions of the fireworks, don’t hold them in your hand unless it says you can,” he said. “Get your distance to light it, all those types of things. Make sure you have the space to shoot what you’re going to shoot.”
